Did You Know? Franchising Is Fueling Local Business and Economic Growth
World Franchise Day on June 10th is a valuable reminder to recognize and celebrate the local entrepreneurs behind many of the businesses Canadians visit every day.
At national franchise chains like Chopped Leaf, franchisees are more than business owners. They are local leaders creating jobs, supporting community initiatives, and helping their neighbourhoods grow.
Franchising powers local entrepreneurship
Did you know that many franchise owners are independent small business owners? They live and work in the communities they serve, employing local residents and contributing to local economies.
What makes franchising unique is that entrepreneurs are “in business for themselves, but not by themselves.” Franchisees benefit from a proven business model, operational support, training, and mentorship, while still building and leading their own business.
Franchising is a major part of Canada’s economy
Franchising is one of Canada’s largest economic drivers. According to the Canadian Franchise Association, Canadian franchises contribute over $120 billion CAD per year to the Canadian economy. Franchising in Canada is the 12th largest sector of the economy.
Beyond economic impact, franchise businesses create jobs and career opportunities for nearly two million Canadians, paying approximately $75 billion in wages nationwide.
Franchisees help strengthen communities
The impact of franchising extends far beyond storefronts. Franchisees are deeply connected to their communities, supporting local charities, sponsoring sports teams and events, and creating opportunities for young people entering the workforce. According to the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, 74% of small retailers donate to local charities and causes, while more than half sponsor local events or provide job opportunities for youth.
Celebrating World Franchise Day
World Franchise Day celebrates the people, partnerships, and progress that franchising creates across Canada and around the world.
At Chopped Leaf, we’re proud of the franchisees who bring our “Feel Good After You Eat” experience to communities across Canada while making a meaningful local impact every day.
