Meet Chetan: Catering Connections in Dartmouth

When Chetan Jajadiya opened the first Chopped Leaf in Atlantic Canada in November 2021, he brought something new to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia: fresh, healthy food with a side of exceptional service. With a background in banking and a passion for entrepreneurship, Chetan has built his business on strong customer relationships, smart marketing, and community engagement.

A Personal Touch That Builds Loyalty

Being the only Chopped Leaf in the region came with challenges—and opportunities. Chetan made it his mission to make every guest feel welcome, greeting customers personally so they “know the owner.” His dedication to service has paid off, earning the restaurant an impressive 4.9-star rating on Google.

Catering has also become a key growth driver. Chetan takes a hands-on approach: he personally delivers samples to local offices, introduces himself to the person who handles food orders, and follows up with coupons and check-ins.

“The key is to meet the decision-maker,” he says. “I drop off samples, follow up with coupons the next day, and always check in after an order. If something wasn’t perfect, this gives us a chance to make it right.”

His method works—nearly 50% of businesses place an order within a week.

Creative Marketing That Works

Chetan thinks outside the box when it comes to local promotion. He trades gift cards for ad space on digital billboards through a partnership with his landlord and provides free Chopped Water to employees in Dartmouth Crossing to help spread the word.

He’s also instilled a mindset of constant improvement in his team.

“I tell my staff—do your best every day but always think about how we can be better.”

Thanks to his proactive outreach and personal touch, Chopped Leaf is becoming a go-to spot for fresh food in Dartmouth. Chetan’s story is proof that thoughtful service and smart marketing can create a recipe for success—even in a brand-new market.
